Tucson is truly a hiker's paradise! Here, we are surrounded with unique hiking opportunities to suit all seasons. The imposing granite faces north of campus are the Santa Catalinas and include scenic Sabino Canyon and Mount Lemmon, a favorite getaway from the summer heat. The rugged Rincons lie looming in the east. The gentle Tucson range west of campus is a good place to watch the sunset on summer evenings. The Santa Ritas, further south, include Mount Wrightson, which at 9453 feet is the highest point near Tucson. Each of these major ranges is less than an hour's drive from campus. We also make longer trips to places outside Tucson, such as the Chiricahuas, Pinacate preserve in Mexico, and the Grand Canyon.
